Live Local Act refinements being considered: Similar to FHBA, BASF members met internally several times and prepared some needed refinements to this historic legislation. Proposed edits would help builders and bankers move forward with more confidence on projects with modifications to key definitions and clarifying requirements to ensure the continued confirmation of tax exemption benefits included in this important legislation. FHBA's revisions include BASF members' concerns.

We beat back proposed Broward School Impact fee increase! With the help of Mr. Skeet Jernigan, BASF member Chuck Brecker, our Builder "Email Blitz Team", Broward's proposed school impact fee increase of up to $4,000 per home was defeated! The fee hikes ranged from 9% to 49%, depending on housing type. BASF focused its arguments on the drop in Broward school student population and excess classroom capacity in many schools as the basis for no fee increase. Gold Coast Builders Association (GCBA) jointed in, raising points which those same School Board consultants used in the Palm Beach County study. Their Commission rejected that fee, as incorrectly prepared. Finally, both Associations think the proposed fee increase violates state law: proposed fees are being used to pay off debt on old projects, which will not serve the home buyers who pay these fees. Job well done, everyone!
