New: Sinking Buildings “Monitoring Device” and

County Commission items caught my eye.....

yours too, maybe?

Sinking Buildings “Monitoring  Device”?..In today’s Miami Herald, a reporter prepared an article, about a relatively new product, made by Smart Core Systems. It detects even the slightest movements of high-rise buildings. The 2-18-2025 explains how the device was developed and what it measures. As the Miami Herald item is heavily encrypted, it cannot be included in my note. However, feel free to go to miamiherald.com or view this company’s website: https://www.smartcore-systems.com/

Further, in reviewing tomorrow’s County Commission agenda, I noticed the following  items of interest:

Item 4 (B) First reading ordinance by Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez proposes significant changes to existing Community Councils ordinance. This 54-page proposal, includes a series of “clarifying” amendments, renaming these boards among other things. Key points include:

  1. Name change: the proposed name for these boards will now be the “Community Residents Zoning Body.” Further, it clearly states that, "...no member of such a board can be called a “councilman/councilwoman”, etc.
  2. if adopted, the proposal includes the appointment of seven (7) members of each Residents Zoning Body based on greatest total population within the CZR area, and must be confirmed by a County Commission majority vote. No more CZAB elections....
  3. No member of a Residents’ Zoning Body can advocate for an application before any public body, including the County Commission, state or federal body.
  4. Additional provisions about professional behavior of any Residents Zoning Body appointee.
  5. Click button at bottom of page to read this entire item......

Item 7(B) re Contributions in Lieu of building Workforce Housing Units by Commissioner Cabrera  ? this second reading item proposes a change to the County’s existing workforce housing ordinance, to revise the current "in lieu fee" formula paid by a builder, if they do not include any workforce housing units within developments with fewer than 20 units. For these smaller sized developments, the County is doubling the fee ? likely as an “incentive” to have more workforce units built within these smaller projects. Thus, if the builder chooses not to include these types of units, the County proposes to double the fee, to “more accurately reflect the cost of constructing workforce housing units”. The funds would go into the County’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund, to build more affordably priced housing. Please   for that item.

Report 2(B)(5) ? Mayor’s report on locating a new Solid Waste Facility? Mayor Levine-Cava continues to promote the continuation of hauling garbage by rail to other counties. The report continues to present all options her Administration has reviewed, but none come without some type of lawsuit, or related “issue.” Please click on button below for that report.

Thanks for being great members and Happy Tuesday?.right?!
